Weekly update for 1/31

Last week we started our study of author Jan Brett by exploring her re-telling of The Mitten. We were able to compare the story to several other versions of the Ukrainian Folktale.

We added the Power Word IT to our Word Wall, and Meet the Lively Letter Super Star i. He is a basketball player that tries to get the ball /i/n the basket!

In Math we explored how shapes could be made from other shapes. (two trapezoids make a hexagon, and three triangles make a trapezoid!)

Mrs. Rivet visited us on Thursday to teach us about the Zones of Regulation. These are levels of emotions that we can use to identify how we are feeling. Red Zone: Angry and out of control, Yellow Zone: Excited and a lot of Energy, Green: Just right and ready to learn, and Blue Zone: Tired and sad. We will be using this language throughout the year. WE will work on identifying what zone we are in as well as strategies to get ourselves into the correct zone.  More information will be coming home to help you continue this language at home.

We didn't get to play in the snow this week because of the ice and extreme cold. With all of the fresh snow that we got this weekend, I am sure we will be able to get out this week. Please make sure you have gloves, boots, and snowpants in your snow bags!

Thank you to those of you that have signed up for the February Volunteer Schedule.

This week will be busy!

We will explore another book by Jan Brett called The Hat. We will start to notice similarities in her illustrations.
Tuesday we will celebrate Lunar New Year
Wednesday we will check to see if the Groundhog sees his shadow.
*Don't forget: We will have an early release day on Wednesday too!
