Curriculum this week

Theme: Spring!

For the past several weeks we have been exploring the wonders of spring! After vacation, we will focus on Earth Day!

Writing: How-To

We have brainstormed all of the things that we are really good at. So good, that we could teach someone else how to do it. We have tried to stretch this skill out into 3 parts to teach someone. Now, we are working on writing our "HOW-TO" work.

Handwriting: u, i, e

Literacy: Kind Ed, Power Word GO, Punctuation

Now that we know how important King Ed is, we are going to start practicing using him in our spelling and recognizing him in our reading!

We are learning when to use a period, question mark, or exclamation mark in our writing.

Math: Teens on the Double Ten Frame, and the Equal Sign

Children represent and compare teen numbers

Children learn about the equal symbol

Social Studies: Phone Numbers

Thank you to everyone that provided a phone number for me to help your children learn. We will spend some time at the end of this week talking about our phone numbers, why they are all different, and why they are so important to know!

Science: Push and Pull

Over the last several weeks, we have been exploring how things move and how our pushes and pulls can change the way that things move! Today, we will talk about what happens when objects bump into each other.

Friendly Reminders:

Orange Folders

Please check your child's folder at the end of each day and take any papers out that do not need to be returned to school. We are seeing some folders that are overstuffed.

Also, please send your child's folder to school each morning. If papers are sent home, it is much easier to tuck them into a folder. This is also encouraging routines and responsibility that will be expected in First Grade!

Water

Please send your child to school with a water bottle each day. Several students have been asking for donated water bottles several days in a row. We have this extra supply for the occasion forget or emergency. We cannot provide your child with a water each day. As the weather gets warmer, it is going to become more and more important to ensure they are drinking throughout the day.

Food

Several students in the class have also been commenting on how hungry they are after eating all of their snack and lunch. We try to have a supply of snacks for the occasional forget and emergency, but we cannot continually give out snacks because the children are still hungry. Please simply pack one or two extra things in lunchbox's so that there is an option for the children if they are still hungry. Also, please make sure your children LIKE what they are expected to eat. We hear quite often that they do not like what was packed.

We currently have NO extra snacks or waters to give to students.
